Today marks 5 years of me training Jiu Jitsu. I started training thanks to Hopeton Stewart (who I can thank for being the one to take me to my first class and introducing me to my Sensei, Howard Steele who in turn has introduced me to countless high level Jiu Jitsu practitioners and consistently aided in my development) and Joe Rogan preaching the good word about the art. I was in a pretty dark spot mentally and didn’t have much personal direction – I was strictly a stoner that played guitar, nothing more, nothing less – and having something to work on and mull over every day since then has truly been “a vehicle for self improvement”. Jiu Jitsu, it’s trials/tribulations and ups and downs have been invaluable in my development as a person.
I’ve met some amazing people through my training (including my long time girlfriend), and feel incredibly thankful to be in a position where I am a part of a community that pushes me to improve every day.
Thank you to every person who has played a role in my development as a martial artist; whether you have rolled with me, coached me, drilled with me, helped me troubleshoot, just talked technique, nerded out on Jiu Jitsu with me, etc.
I am who I am today because I found Jiu Jitsu.
